In the realm of TSCM gear, RF equipment may be the most expensive gear to purchase, but by far
the most elusive of all TSCM gear is the tools and devices needed to work on phone lines and computer
networks. Merely finding the right tools to use can often provide endless grief and expense to all but the
most experienced of TSCM specialists. Telephone gear is not actually overly expensive on an item by item
basis, but the cost of the gear required for basic tests can be troublesome. The following telephone test
equipment and tool list will provide you with a starting point for your telephone kit, and suggests
many of items that it takes decades to figure out that you need for sweeps. Much of equipment
can be obtained on E-Bay, or from tool and test equipment suppliers like Contact East, Jensen Tools,
Allied, Stanley Tools, and related suppliers. Other equipment can be obtained from Kaiser, Granite Island Group,
or other supplier of TSCM specific gear (items listed as "GIG" as the manuf. are items made in-house by
Granite Island Group).
To the right-most columns of this table are numbers that reflect the quantity of each item that should be present on a TSCM team, but be careful about having either to much, or too little equipment.
The part number and model will assist on procuring the right product when you go to place the order, and there are many variants of of of these items, but the ones listed here are best suited for TSCM, but other variants are not, even though they may be somewhat useful. Some of the items listed are used in other portions of a TSCM projects as well as the telephone analysis, some are very high tech, and other are more basic items that it take years to locate.

Greenlee | P-Phone Adapter | PE290-02 | Hard-Wired P-Phone Adapter with 5' Combi-Cord | Test set accessory that allows the use of a standard analog (POTS) test set on an 8-kHz digital centrex circuit. Sometimes called P-Phone, MBS or EBS lines, testing these digital circuits formerly required the telecom technician to use specialized, costly digital test sets or put up with an 8-kHz whistle. This affordably priced PEI P-Phone Adapter connects directly to most existing analog test sets to convert them for use on digital lines, both signaling and speech. Permanently install an adapter on any existing butt set. Operation is simple. A simple two-position POTS/digital P-Phone slide switch lets you use your own test set on either analog or Meridian Digital Centrex circuit as desired. Loop limit on true digital lines operating at 8 kHz is 1230 ½. This Hard-Wired P-Phone Adapter is line powered, so no batteries are required. PE290-02 features angled bed-of nails clips, piercing spike and 5-foot combi-cord. One-year warranty.
